I'm Liam — the founder and director of REMC Ltd. I started this business in 2024 after a decade of pricing electrical tenders in-house for UK contracting firms, because I kept watching the same problem play out: small and mid-size electrical contractors needing the discipline of a senior estimator, but unable to justify the £75k+ loaded cost of hiring one full-time.

REMC is the answer to that problem. We sit alongside contractors as their outsourced estimating function — pricing tenders, building Bills of Quantities, running supplier and sub enquiries, and producing submission-ready bid packs in the contractor's own house style.

The background

I spent my career before REMC inside electrical contracting businesses, working up from estimator to senior estimator and then commercial lead across a range of project values — from £30k retail fit-outs to £780k industrial schemes. Most of it commercial and industrial, with periods on healthcare and education frameworks.

The pattern that pushed me to start REMC: in nearly every business I worked in, the directors were doing the pricing themselves. Not because they wanted to, but because they couldn't find someone competent at a price the business could afford. They priced tenders at night and on weekends, missed bids they should have won, and watched margin leak out of jobs that were under-qualified at submission.

Outsourcing the estimating function was the obvious fix — but the existing options in the UK market were either freelance estimators with no methodology, or large consultancies priced for tier-one work. There was nothing in the middle that felt like a proper in-house function delivered remotely. So I built it.

Based in Glasgow, working UK-wide

REMC operates from Glasgow, Scotland. Everything we do is digital — Bluebeam take-offs, Excel BOQs, branded submission packs — which means geography doesn't matter to the service. We work with electrical contractors from Inverness to Cornwall, with no premium for being outside Scotland.

That said, we know the UK regional markets. Sub rates in central London aren't sub rates in Glasgow. CIJC labour adjustments vary by region. Sector mix in the South East skews commercial fit-out and data centres; the Midlands tilts industrial; the North West is heavy on residential and education frameworks. We price to the regional reality of the contractor we're working with, not a national average that wouldn't be competitive anywhere.

"Most lost tenders aren't lost on price. They're lost on the qualifications and prelims that make the price defensible."

What I believe about electrical estimating

What we work on

REMC has priced tenders across the full UK electrical contracting landscape in 2026 — domestic refurbishment, commercial fit-out, healthcare, education, light industrial, hospitality, retail, data centre infrastructure, and specialist process work for pharmaceutical and food production sectors. Project values from £20k single-trade jobs to £1m+ multi-package M&E packages.

We work mostly on a Monthly Service Plan basis with contractors who tender consistently, and also take on one-off tenders for businesses who need a single bid priced this week. The four Service Plans (Essential, Progress, Enhanced, Priority) scale from 9 hours to 54 hours of estimating support per month.

Talk to me directly

If you're a director or commercial lead of a UK electrical contractor and you'd like to talk through whether REMC is the right fit, you can book 20 minutes directly on my diary. Discovery calls are free, no obligation, no pitch — I'd rather we both find out quickly whether it's a fit.
